Support the pensions strike: 30 June
Civil servants and teachers have responded to the Con-Dem attack on their
pensions with strong votes for strike action on 30 June. They will be joined
by college and university lecturers.
The strike, involving around 800,000 workers, is likely to be the opening
shot of a rolling campaign. Other unions, like Unison, with 1.4 million
members, say they will join the struggle to defend public-sector pensions in
The Con-Dems want to divide us on this issue. They are saying that
public-sector workers should not have better pensions than private-sector
ones. They are making concessions to the lowest paid public-sector workers
at the expense of the slightly better paid.
The real division in Britain is between the millionaires and the rest. We
should reject Con-Dem divide and rule. A defeat for one group would weaken
us all. A victory on pensions would give everyone the confidence to fight on
other issues. Defending public-sector pensions means rejecting a ‘race to
the bottom’ and demanding decent pensions for all.
Every anti-cuts activist should support the pensions strike on 30 June. On
the day, strikers, students, and anti-cuts activists should come together on
picket-lines and at local rallies. In the run-up, there should be street
stalls and planning meetings to maximise the impact of the action.
Organise street stalls: June 25
We are calling on all local anti-cuts groups to organise street stalls on
Saturday 25 June. The aim should be to build support for the pensions
strike, encouraging people to attend public meetings, picket-lines, rallies,
and marches on the day, and to sign up for the CoR National Conference.
Campaign materials are available. See below.

All CoR supporters should register for the conference and encourage union
branches, student unions, anti-cuts groups, and campaign groups to send
